I am working on a short video on lamp rewiring. I believe it is a great way to help the environment as well as bring new life to some wonderful vintage lamps.
It is my opinion, that the lamps produced today are embarrassing in quality and workmanship compared to older lamps manufactured before the 1960’s, even the 1970’s. So many lamps these days are made of resin, the lampshade frames break down to fit in the shipping box, and the lampshade fitter just sits on the socket body instead of a harp. Some floor lamps also break down for shipping, and are made with a very thin pot metal that breaks easily. I am sorry to say that even though they can make them look nice, these lamps just don’t last. Hopefully you will consider rewiring your old lamp and maybe even adding a new lampshade before destroying a wonderful antique.
